Materials Request Slip
Patrons can request materials not available at the library by filling out a Materials Request Slip available at any of the service desks at the library or below. A valid borrowers card is required in order to use this service.
If the item is less than 6 months old, it will be considered for purchase. Please note that, due to the number of requests, we may not be able to satisfy all your submissions.
If the item is over 6 months old, we can attempt to borrow it from another library via Evergreen Indiana, SRCS, or using Interlibrary Loan. If the material cannot be borrowed from another library, it will be considered for purchase.
Please note that when items are borrowed from other libraries via Interlibrary Loan, the lending library determines the loan period and renewing is not an option.
Online Requests and Holds
Note: The same restrictions apply to placing holds online as to filling out a request slip at the library.
Not only can you use the online catalog to place a hold on material in our library, you may also place holds on books and audio books that are in any of the 100+ other Evergreen libraries in Indiana (unfortunately music CDs, kits, VHS and electronics from other Evergreen libraries are only available for check-out at the owning library). Return policies are set by the owning library.
When you search the catalog, it will default to items at the Peabody Public Library; however, if you want to search other libraries, you may use the drop-down menu where our library name is entered and scroll to the very top to select Evergreen Indiana. If you find a book from another library, you simply click on the place hold feature to the right of the item record. (If you are not already logged in, you must log in using your library card number and password/PIN.)
A screen will come up to confirm your hold. If all information is correct, click Submit. You will receive confirmation if your hold was placed successfully.
The length of time it takes to receive a hold varies. If the item is checked in at the Peabody Public Library, then it should be available relatively quickly. If the item is checked out to another patron, already has a lengthy hold list, or is coming from another library, it will take longer. The library receives deliveries from other Evergreen Indiana libraries five times a week.
I’ve tried to put items on hold before, and sometimes it won’t let me. What’s the problem?
There are a few reasons why you might receive an error message when attempting to place a hold. It could be that the item you would like to place on hold is from another library but was released within the last six months, or you could be trying to place a hold for an item that cannot be transferred from another EI library (only music CDs, kits, VHS, and electronics do not transfer). If you have fines of over $10.00 or have more than 15 overdue items, you will also not be able to place any holds until the items are returned and the fines are paid. You may not have more than 20 items on hold. Not all Evergreen libraries are transferring Blu-Rays and DVDs at this time.
SRCS, Indiana’s Statewide Remote Circulation Service, links together the catalogs of multiple Indiana libraries into a single interface which allows authorized users to search the library collections of over 150 Hoosier libraries and then to place requests for materials owned any of those participating libraries. The requested materials will be delivered to the user’s home library for their use.
Click here for more information and to access SRCS online. You will need a valid Peabody Public Library card number and PIN to log in (use the Login button in the upper right corner of the page.)
If you would like to request an interlibrary loan for materials not available in Evergreen Indiana or via SRCS, you may use the form on this page or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your request. Please note that Interlibrary Loans (apart from Evergreen and SRCS) can only be fulfilled for patrons with a green Peabody Public Library card (that is, where Peabody Public Library is the home library).
Please include the following information in your email:
- Your name and contact information,
- Title and author of the work,
- Preferred format (book, CD, etc.),
- Any other specific needs (such as latest edition, large print, movie version).
This information will enable us to fulfill your request as accurately as possible.
At other Evergreen Indiana Libraries
Patrons may also go directly to another Evergreen Indiana library to borrow items. Most items may be returned at the lending library or here at Peabody Public Library, whichever is more convenient.
